Entry: tennis-wimbledon 2009 Thursday, July 02, 2009

The Centre court at the Wimbledon has for years been the battle ground for the top-seeded tennis players. It has showcased the greatest of matches on its lush green grass. It has been known as a court where class counts and only the best compete. The pulsating and electrifying audience add glory to the world's best court. However this year things have changed and the glamour quotient has stepped in. It's no more the battle of the  top-seeds but instead the battle of the so called 'babes' that is witnessed in the centre court.
I read an article by NDTV correspondent Sonali Chander on
http://www.ndtv.com/wimbledon/story.aspx?ID=SPOEN20090099724&keyword=wimbledon  where it is stated that Wimbledon authorities have admitted that they consider looks over ranking when deciding on who should play on the Centre Court. They don't call it sex appeal but box office appeal.
This season,
unseeded players like Gisela Dulko and Maria Kirilenko
got to play on the centre court ,not because of having class but solely because of their beauty.

Sorana Cirstea, whose seeded 27th also played on Centre Court, while top seed Dinara Safina, 2nd seed Serena Willaims and 5th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova were pushed to court number 2

There have been reactions to this from all over the world as one wants to see good tennis players battling it out and not good looking tennis players attracting the audiences with their flairy looks and not so flairy games on the all important centre court . I seriously feel that beauty does not lie in the looks but instead in the game when it comes to tennis.
